We are not and never have been a democracy. We are a republic. You cannot preserve something that has never been. I think you make some very good points in your blog, but you are mistaken greatly if you believe that we are a democracy.

You should read the book. I am fully aware that we do not have a direct democracy, but a republic. But as I make clear in the book, both direct democracy and republican forms of government fall under the general heading of democratic forms of government, and it is this latter general sense of democracy that the title refers.
