Law and Order or Dictatorship?

Trump’s takeover of the DC police is very instructive. Republicans see it as just another part of Trump’s emphasis on law and order. They see things like the number of arrests and removing the tent city outside Union Station, and say it’s about time.

Democrats react based on TDS and see it as just another step toward dictatorship. They claim crime is down in Washington and is not a problem. It is true, crime stats show a decline from recent highs. However, there are three problems.

The first is that crime is so bad, and the police can do so little, that many crimes are never reported. It is just not worth the effort. The second is that the commander in charge of the stats has been put on administrative leave for manipulating the numbers to make it look like crime has decreased. He did this by reclassifying crimes as ones that were not reported.

Finally, even with the decrease, crime is still very high. If DC were a state, the murder rate would be the highest in the country. Compared to other world capitals, DC has the highest murder rate at 41 per 100,000. The next highest is Montevideo, Uruguay, at 16.1. Baghdad, Iraq, not typically considered a safe place, is third at 15.2. Washington’s murder rate is 2.7 times higher than in Baghdad, yet apparently, Democrats are okay with that.

So, yet again, we have another 80-20 issue, and again, Democrats stake their position on the 20. One interesting development is that, this time, several Democrats are breaking ranks and saying this is a trap, and Democrats should not fall for it. However, so far, they are a minority.

One thing I cannot quite grasp is the DOJ lawyer who threw a sandwich at a federal officer. A young college student might be idiotic enough and not quite understand what they were doing. But this guy was a lawyer working in the criminal division. He had presumably taken criminal law and knew the definition of an assault and the significance of assaulting a federal officer. So why did he do it? Did he want to lose his job and become a convicted felon, risking his career? Did he think he would get away with it? Was his TDS so strong that he could not think rationally?

I guess he does make it clear why people think there is a deep state, and why it was possible to corrupt the DOJ in the Trump-Russia hoax to break the rules and act illegally.

Putin clearly understands Trump. He goes into the summit and announces that the 2020 election had problems and that if Trump had been elected, the Ukraine war would not have happened. I doubt he really cares one way or the other, but he does know how to get on Trump’s good side. As for the peace talks, I am waiting for the outcome, but am hopeful.

It makes me wonder how history would have changed if, in 2016, Democrats had sought to butter Trump up and get as much as they could out of him. Trump is not ideological; he is transactional. They probably could have gotten a lot. Who knows, if they had, perhaps today it would have been the Republicans who were split and in disarray, and the Democrats united and strong, having just won back the White House. Yet this would have required them to give a bit, which they seem incapable of. So, instead, Hillary invented the Trump-Russia hoax, and then Democrats used it to corrupt the Government in an attempt to remove Trump from office.

Finally, we have yet another in a very long line of tragic stories concerning the danger of the sanctuary policies of Democrats. Sure, they want the warm bodies to boost their numbers in the census, giving them at least 14 to 26 House seats. But at what cost? California gave a commercial truck license to Harjinder Singh, an illegal alien.

Driving a semi in Florida, Singh attempted a U-turn on a freeway, suddenly cutting across all traffic lanes. An SUV behind him, suddenly confronted with a semi blocking all lanes, had no time to brake and could only plow into the side of the trailer, killing the three occupants.

Newsom, of course, blamed Trump and said he was either lying or clueless. The problem is that the Federal Government does not issue commercial licenses; the states do. Most do not give them to illegal aliens; California does.

In 2020, the Trump administration rejected Singh’s work authorization request. However, Biden needs bodies for the census, so they approved it in June 2021. So you can add 3 more to the list of people killed by Biden’s failed policies
